On The Trail
Ride Report - 29th September 2007 - By Gadi Raanan
Ride 29.09.07
20 riders embarked this morning at 7 am from the usual meeting place, facing Northward, under the surehanded guidance of David. Let’s welcome our newest rider, Yossi, who joined today. Hopefully the ride’s adventures won’t deter his wish to continue riding with the group.

To me it is unclear what route we took. It felt like David has skillfully managed to lead us thru every serpentine, sandbed and uphill that exists in the Southern Sharon region. The greatest moment came after the debate about where to have coffee, was concluded with Arsuf the clear winner. Not more then one minute later we were happily seated at Buono. However, the service was good and so was the cold coffee.

With relatively few adventures on the way back along side the railroad track, we concluded a very pleasant, long (close to 4 hours and 41 Kms - including my home stretch) and not too hot trip. For those of us who have a secret wish to lose some unwanted tires around our waists, this is the most effective type of trip – long, and utilizing relatively low heart rate. Higher heart rate trips supposedly consume energy from the muscles’ stores, rather then from body fat.

See you all in the next ride.

Well, we don't have a ride report per se, only a special announcement that David felt needed special attention: Martin has a new bike! This could not go unnoticed. So click any image to see a larger version taken by David on Tuesday night's ride.

Ride 15.09.07

Well I guess I finally couldn’t refuse to do a Cyclenix ride write -up after making excuses for so long!! What better one to do than today’s ride around Eretz Acheret.

In the very early days of Cyclenix, John, David and I used to make this rather “mountainous” region of the Sharon area between Jaljulya and Rosh Ha’Ayin a regular route; very often once a month. However we would set out from Ra’anana and arrive at the entrance to the dirt road rather exhausted and then attempt the long and in those days, much more difficult climbs due to the “hardware” we were riding being of inferior quality to our steeds of today. However, I think most of the 23 riders who set out from the car park had arrived there by car; Max and Nurit arrived by bike from Hod Hasharon, and we also saw Avraham on the road.

David soon had maps to give to a few of those interested in looking at them and we set out on the first looooooooong climb. The area of Eretz Aheret comprises of a number of routes which circle and intersect each other, and I must say that after a time I was totally confused, as we often seemed to be riding past the same tree or rocky outcrop, arriving back at the car park, and then setting off again in a different direction!!! I think that with David and Max leading, it sometimes appeared as though it was the blind leading the blind!!! Nevertheless, they always seemed to find their way back - mostly to the car park that is!!

There were a few falls, quite a few very difficult single track down-hills, mostly of the walking as opposed to riding type, as well as some very challenging and steep uphill climbs. But all of these events together made for a great day out in good company, and the hope that we won’t leave it too long before we set out once again for Eretz Aheret.

Ride 08.09.07
There were a few new faces at the start of the ride and, despite the fact that quite a few of our regulars were not there, 27 riders were. Well done and welcome to the newcomers! Hope we will see you with us on future rides.

The route: We headed East through Givat Chen and with one or two small detours, we followed a route that we have often traversed on previous occasions. Some improvements of the trail were noticeable, especially in the area of the Park Afek.

Weather: Not too hot (a little cooler would not have hurt!)

Comments: Please remember to bring sufficient to drink on the ride! One thing was noticeable on today's ride. Because of the fact that there was a difference in the level of fitness of the many riders, the group was often split up and on ocassions a few riders went astray (me included!!!). I recommend that where there is an optional change of direct, someone should remain to guide the riders "at the back". That aside,we had a nice ride. As usual the company was good. A few of us stopped at a new "watering hole", Chendela, at Givat Chen. It's a great place. The surroundings are delightful and the food and service were good. I highly recommend them.

Hope to see you at our first ride of the year! 5768!

Ride Report - 1st September 2007 - By David
Participants: Eighteen - 2 left en route but happily everyone fully accounted for - the only things we lost this week were calories!!
2007_09_01
Route: From Ra'anana down to the railway line at Kfar Shmaryahu, northwards on the western side of the line, passing Ronit Farm, into Yakum via the eastern single-track, further north through the avocados, up the hill (black iris "country" in winter), down the hill, round the lake, over the coastal road foot-bridge and back home via a well-earned refreshment stop at Arsuf - total distance 34 kms.
Conditions: Hot and humid (but despite this a fast-ish tempo generated a "breeze" effect), and mostly sand-free.
Bottom Line: Another good ride, good turn-out, good exercise, but above all else, and as always, good company - and "just good to be out there on our bikes". A good week to all!
