Ride Report - 27th October 2007 - By Ted

2007_10_27
We started off with some 23 riders...but then we were dispersed like the Wandering Jew and then there were twelve sharing a bottle of wine (why, see the end) at Arsuf. No kidding! Really! And we claimed we were sober as we rode off in the dust leaving Arsuf and the other restaurant guests agog at the magnificent 12 who downed a bottle and were still able to ride without a wobble. But why am I beginning at the end. I am going in reverse as do some of our rides. So, before reached Arsuf we had split into two main groups(as some preferred to dodge all the sand) and one of those splintered into several lots as some managed to dodge some sand but were rewarded by splendid scenery and sea views at the Arsuf Reserve scenic platform,. Before that spot we had come from Yaqum and the singles track which we reached via Kfar Shmaryahu having taken the southern exit thru the almost pretty lane that borders Hezeliya. OK. Now try and work out the ride going forward.

If you were wandering why we hit the bottle in the midst of the ride? We were celebrating Moni’s upcoming Simcha, the wedding of his daughter taking place tonight, Sunday. Mazal Tov from us all. Now, for the finale, as we rode back from Rishpon, Nurit had a puncture to mark the end of another great weather ride in super company and plentiful exercise. See you at the Kinnert ride next week.

Amongst the 23 riders that set out from our usual starting point were a number of new faces. I can't remember the names but welcome to you all and hopefully we will see you with us often on our future rides. Perhaps the time has come for us to wear name tags!!!!

We travelled a route that we have often traversed....through the Ra'anana Industrial area....Bazra.... North at the entrance to Bnei Zion and on towards Moshav Udim. We made one small change to this route, and that was we travelled on the South side of the Poleg River (did I say "River"? Well that's what it's called but there's never any water in it!!!!) On we rode through Moshav Udim and it was here that our "sweep" Avraham was swept away and lost us!!! However, thanks to cellphone technology we made contact and met up with him at Cafe Buono. No, we never stopped there for our "breakfast". We made our way across the bridge and yes......instead of travelling parallel to the Coastal Road we headed West towards the Sharon Coast Nature reserve and lots and lots of sand, lovely thick sand! I don't think anyone succeeded in not dismounting his or her bike and pushing it every now and then (and we can't blame David for the choice of route because he was not with us). At last we made it to Arsuf for some well deserved nourishment. Thirsts quenched and hungers satisfied we headed for home.

See you all again, same place, same time next Saturday (27th) and for those that would like to do a night ride, we will be going out on Wednesday evening (24th). Details can be found on the website,

To the newcomers who read this and are not on our mailing list if you click on the "Join" button on the website and complete the form, I can add you to the mailing list and you will receive notification of all our planned rides!

Well, there ain't much to report on the ride! There were 9 of us. We started off from our usual spot....Gates 6, 7 and 8 of the Ramat Gan Stadium and made our way through the Hayarkon Park, along the Tel Aviv Promenade, onto the Port of Jaffe and through the old city. The view of Tel Aviv was tremendous.

From there, we rode to the Suzanne Dellal Centre in Neve Tzedek. The old buildings and the restored buildings look so different at night. Rehov Rothschild was our next port of call and there we came across a most interesting exibition of "Globes of the World" as envisioned by different artists...more than just intresting to say the least.

A little hungry and thirsty by this time, we carried on to CafeAroma on Ibn Givrol Street, satisfied our hunger and thirst and then made our way back to the Ramat Gan Stadium. Another plesant evening ride had come to an end!

Ride 06.10.07

A little after 7.00am 23 riders set off from our usual meeting spot for another "Home Patch" ride. Amongst the 22 riders were a few we haven't seen for some time and one new rider, Yoram. Welcome to you all and I hope that we'll see you regularly on our future rides.

The route we took was a well-worn route to the North of Ra'anana going through the fields of Bnei Zion and the surrounding areas. There was a bit of everything......sand, a nice uphill single track, a few gentle climbs and some nice downhills. The only out of the ordinary occurrence (is it such an unusual incident?) was a puncture sustained by Shaul's bike, but as usual, quick as a flash, it was repaired by our more than qualified volunteers, and we were soon on our way with a minimal delay. Well done! We rode through Yaqum, passed Cafe Buono, crossed the bridge over the Coastal Road and made our way passed Gaash, Shefayim and onto that very pleasant "watering hole" Arsuf. The service there is always good and those who eat there know that the food is good as well. From there it was "homeward bound". Another pleasant ride of +/-32 kilometres in pleasant weather with very pleasant company had come to an end.
