David Lewis needs no introduction to our riders because you can't miss him. His all-rounder skills and various Cyclenix hats, tour director, sweeper, in-house mechanic (chain repair doctor), guide, cartographer, photographer, correspondent, weight-lifter (see below) and lots more duties render him almost indispensable to our rides. And then there's that pump? Few bikes have escaped it's wrath as David is always on hand at the puncture site all eager to pump. Well, if you don't know it already, David has always been a skilled "David of all Trades". In his native South Africa he indeed had many interests. Apart from being a lawyer by profession (how could such a nice bloke be a lawyer?), he has at times back in Durban been involved in various pursuits ….., golf (7 handicap!!!!), tennis, sailing, restoring collector cars, classical music (reputed to be a real know-all) and not least of all his family. Now, back in 1993, the family, namely David, his delightful wife Ingride and then teenage daughters, Naomi and Shimona decided to head for the Holy Land (son Anthony opted for Oz and lives in Melbourne). It wasn't long after landing in Eretz Yisrael that he embarked on another journey, this time on a bike, and soon joined up with some former friends from Durban. John (another Durban lawyer who rides bikes, something in the Durban air!?), Jack, Moshe and Hylton and so Cyclenix was born. David now had/has a new love and even rides his bike to work come, winter, summer rain or hail (who ever heard of a lawyer riding to work other then in a SUV!). David is past retirement age but continues to work because he enjoys applying his knowledge, experience and legal skills. His MP3 replete with Classical music accompanies him most places (not on Cyclenix rides!) but family is his real love. David's greatest gift to Cyclenix is his unrelenting enthusiasm for life, He lives by the motto,
"don't act your age, just have fun" and we at Cyclenix can attest that David practices what he preaches. It has rubbed off on many of us too!
So, what is the connection to the abovementioned skill, weight-lifter ….David is always on hand to lift a bike over a fence or gate, Now, you may ask, is that one's idea of having fun and not acting your age? If you answered yes, then some of David's magic has indeed rubbed off on you.
