Ride Report - 28 July 2007 - By Dina
Ride 28.07.07
Today was the first of our 6.30 am kick-offs. At our usual meeting place – a lovely surprise, we welcomed Avi back to the group. Also, Ariel has a new bike, quite a serious upgrade from his previous model.

Due to the continuing, searing heat conditions, we decided that this would be a shorter and less-backbreaking, non-sandy route. So we set our wheels westwards, traveling on-road and footpath (we did say it would be an easy ride) down towards Kfar Shmaryahu.

Just as we were nearing the Sharon square we encountered a puncture!!! After our faithful repair team did their bit, we reassembled at the entrance to the Herzlia marina. From there we made our way around to wake up Jack and Sheena, but they were already up and about to take off for the day. We were too early for coffee anywhere in the area so we headed back towards Raanana, via Nof Yam and Rishpon. We ended our ride at Arcafe in Raanana – a nice addition to our usual haunts.

It was a great morning, good company and wonderful to see Avi back in the saddle. Although it was an uneventful ride, all things considered we can conclude that this was a “responsible” ride.

Ride 22 July 2007
Yes! It's the middle of July, it's the hottest time of the year and there had been warnings on the weather reports to expect higher temperatures!!! Nevertheless 25 dedicated masochists were at the start and it was Eastward ho!

Among the 25 were two visitors. Welcome to Gadi from San Fransisco and Pawel from Poland. We hope that you both enjoyed yourselves and then when you are next here in Israel, we will meet again (on our bikes!).

Instead of taking our usual route to the East through Magdiel, this time we cut across the Moshav Givat Chen on the Southern border of Ra'anana and surprisingly enough, the very sandy portion of the track leading to the top of Givat Chen was not as sandy as I had expected. I well remember the days when we used to take this route and on reaching the highest point in the area, we had to rest. However, nowadays, our standard of fitness is such that we have no fatigue problems when we get there.

From then on the ride and the route was uneventful except for a brief period of time when part of the group took a wrong turn and it was only after cellphone calls back and forth that we joined up at the entrance to the moshav Neve Yaraq on the road between Hod Hasharon and Petach Tikva. From then on it was all off the beaten track, lovely green areas, lots of trees, some water. That's it....about 40 kilometres later we reached "home" and that was the end of another great ride (albeit very hot), splendid company and lots of calories burnt! The only thing missing from today's ride was...........................OUR REFRESHMENT STOP!!!!

July 14 ride through
the Sharon Area

Ride Report - Local Sharon Area - 7 July 2007 - by Ted

Local Ride from Ra'anana,
through Yaqum and Rishpon
It was a pleasant surprise to see Avi at the start point this morning looking fit and trim and good news too to hear from him that he will be back in the saddle soon. We look forward to his return and wish him and Daniel a speedy recovery.

22 riders turned up to enjoy another “mild” early-summer day and to be certain, the group chose to be on the coastal side of Ra’anana hoping the heat and humidity would be contained by the sea breeze rather then face the inland eastern and hotter route via Kfar Saba. The wind at our back, we set off from Ahuza and onto the railway line and past “Raanana” railway station. We then mounted the hill to Bnei Zion and rode through the Nature reserve and up the hill towards Yaqum, where a little after the pardesim hills, a wrong turn led us into a Chinese Maze. It was indeed a maze ing (sounds Chinese?...please pronounce correctly) that we eventually found our way out.

The rail- crossing was tackled without mishap and then with the wind now in our faces we struggled past Buono café as the late morning sun began its merciless beating down on the group. Liquids were guzzled down and by the time we reached Arsuf, some of our liquid supply was diminished. Refreshments at Arsuf were timely as well as delicious and so, revitalized we headed for home via Rispon with a stiff SW gusty wind at times pushing us from behind. We did encounter the summer sand at times but that did not mar another wonderful ride with the usual animated company of Cyclenix riders. Thanks to Joe and Martin for the face-lifted Cyclenix site...do take advantage of this new technology and enjoy the superb site.
