Ride Report - Local ride - 19th April. 2008 - By David
Participants: 19 of us made the earlier than normal start-line (to give us more time after the ride to prepare for the annual week-long calorific and gastronomic onslaught that the Seder inaugurates), amongst which first timer Frances - welcome and we hope you will join us again soon.
Route: Down to Apollonia and along "Dina's Trail" to Arsuf, Shefayim, then through the Sharon Beach Nature Reserve (with our usual pilgrimage to the view site), on to Yakum and back via Ronit Farm, then east up the hill to Bnei Zion and to a new watering hole (with bike shop attached) and back to Ra'anana. Total distance 35 kms.
Conditions: Perfect riding conditions weatherwise. Not to much sand en route except for "the Dina" and approach to Arsuf (probably our last ride there until we get some rain - anyone remember what that is??!!).
Bottom Line: Another good ride, taking advantage of "home patch" variations, and as usual that special Cyclenix ingredient "Great Company". Chag Sameach and Moadim V'Simcha.
Away Ride Report - Hayarkon River - 12th April. 2008 - By Ted
We have had variety added to our rides in recent weeks. We normally take pride on how we have variations on the home patch ride but this month variety has come in the form of different rides. Today's accent was on "back". Back to Basics, back to school, back to ride with Cyclenix, back to uniform, back to falling.
We, all thirty of us, went
back to Lior's basic workshop at the Soleus club school. We went
back to terrain school to learn how to ride technically. Jack, Moshe, Shaul and Avi all came
back like the proverbial Prodigal sons. Most of us went
back to uniform in our Cyclenix shirts fitting for a
back to school morning. And some were
back to taking falls (Avi, nu,nu,nu) as we were "roped" in by Lior and attempted to "hop" over various wooden obstacles cleverly devised by Doug Detweiller of Sprokids, ever present in the form of his protégée, Lior. Fortunately, Lior and Jack were there to pick up the fallen Cyclenix heroes valiantly
pedaling standing, looking ahead, ratcheting and...falling!
We rode in circles like a tribe of misguided Red Indians assaulting the absentee pioneers and we loved every minute because it was so different and unexpected. And then when we were sated we rode off along the Yarkon eastward accompanied by the stench of that Green river and the rising dust. The blossoming eucalyptus trees, orchards and cane rushes offset the nauseating steamy stench and the many other riders we encountered en route were apt diversions as we twisted and turned.
Finally, after a sandy patch, we were
back to rubbish as we rode up the abandoned reclaimed rubbish tip or should we say, future archeological mound of Hod Hasharon for a spectacular view. Throughout, we were accompanied by Danny Ben Menachem of Soleus and at the lofty panoramic spot, we were also joined by Lior and his mates who just "happened to drop by"! We snacked and took photos and then rode downwards, turning back towards our meeting point at Atidim. The ride
back was non-stop, warmer and more crowded and by the time we reached Soleus, it was almost traffic jammed as "Saturday" families invaded the area. We found enough place at the Soleus restaurant and ate delicious stuff fitting for a perfect morning ridden in almost ideal climatic conditions. Thanks to
IMBA Jack for liaising with Soleus and particular kudos to Danny and Lior our gracious guests for a super adventure.
How's your
back? I can tell you how mine is!
PS. Now you know why you have to support IMBA and Sprokids
Away Ride Report - Horshim - 5th April. 2008 - By Gidi
The Horshim forest went quiet. Birds stopped chirping. Even the cows in the valley down below went silent. It was but about four hours later that the clouds of dust finally settled and peace returned to the forest. Those who were fortunate enough to escape told the story of a gang of 20 or so cycling up and down the narrow forest paths, jumping off 2 meter high rocks, taking stone steps as if they had never touched the ground and all this while yelling at each other in a foreign tung. They were known as the Cyclenix.
It all began with a bang. Some came in with their bikes on large carriers, others cycling directly in from various hideouts around the Sharon area. They all flocked at a seemingly pre-defined target just above the Horshim valley of the brave. Then, all at once their entourage began.
They circled the Horshim village from the south, up the hill to the place where they met their first two flabbergasted locals. Their only crime was to build fences for their cows; fences the Cyclenix went through without hesitation.
Down the single tracks they went and up again towards their second decent. They split into two or more groups confusing the local observes who concluded some of them were lost. Unfortunately, they reunited to go down again.
Some went on bike and some bravely on foot down the steep rocky mountain.
Then, after reuniting in the valley and fixing a broken saddle they took off again up towards the hills. From lookout to lookout they went. In their tracks rocks turned pink and remain so until this day. Finally after scaring the locals onto cows and horses in the valley, they left the Horshim area back to their hideouts...
It is feared they will reappear again next Saturday.
