Ride Report - 24th November 2007 - Local Ride -By Zvi Lanis

Ride Report - 17th November 2007 - Away Ride Nahal Alexander -By David
2007_11_17
Participants: 22 riders, including Cyclenix first-timer Dennis (welcome and we hope you will join us again soon) and Yacov and Mina who joined us en route - good to see you back on your "steed" Yacov!

Route: Following the course of the river, from Moshav Burgata down to the coast just south of Mvuot Yam. Total riding distance there and back - 37 kilometres amid a kaleidoscope of changing scenery and greenery, as the photographs show. [The Alexander is one of the few rivers on the coastal plain which can boast an all year round water content - hence the richness of the vegetation along its banks] The route included our only "uphill single-track", a detour to Hurvat Samra, a ruin on a small hillock believed to have once been a customs house taxing the traffic of goods on the river (trust a tax facility to be the sole survivor of a bygone era!!).

Conditions: Perfect riding conditions under a cloudless sky in what the weatherman described as "warm and dry for the time of year", enabling us to view a hazeless Mediterranean in all its sparkling early winter glory.

Bottom line: A most enjoyable ride, picturesque surroundings, the usual excellent company - adding up once again to "just good to be out there on our bikes".

Postscript: Some of us ended the outing with a short drive to Tzomet Rupin (up the road from HaSharon) to "refuel" at the Aroma coffee shop. Thanks for the suggestion, Vashek - an excellent way to have rounded things off.

Ride Report - 10th November 2007 By Max

Cyclenix to the fore. Off we went but this time East. Who said "Go East young Man" ?? So led by the short-sighted Max we went down to Magdiel and turned West into the road leading to the Purification plant worked jointly by the Hod Hasharon and Kfar Saba Municipalities. (They still don't talk to each other!!!). We carried on through the pardesim and turned South by the side of Adanim till we got to Nahal Kaneh, then West again along the Kaneh till it joined Nahal HaYarkon. (The amount of crap that goes into that water ...). Then we went East along the Yarkon. The more I ride around this area the more I like it. Then over the wet stony crossing and onto the South side of the Nahal for a nice ride through the rain soaked foliage and onto the sources of the Yarkon. (Yossi's pool for those in the know). A little break and then over the bridge to the big lily pond which is a very beautiful sight to behold especially when the flowers are in full bloom – which they weren’t. Then we continued to a nice descent and immediate ascent (a little challenge) and around next to Aunty pasti, oops I mean AntiPatris which at one time was part of the city of Afek and commanded an important leg on the route from Egypt to Damascus known as the Via Maris.

Another little break to wait for all and then off again towards Einat. The next stop was under Kvish 6 just before Einat and here we waited again. At this point the questions being asked where, Can we go home now please? And How much further is this ride going to take ? or ....Who is leading this ride anyway?? Well having braved everyone's wrath we carried on to another little challenge. This time a longer steeper descent with a soft earth steep ascent. Well the braves of Cyclenix rode down, slid down, fell down a la David and we all waited for Ariel to show us all professionally how it was supposed to be done. From there we rode past the Bet Almin of Einat (For a price you can be buried here any which way you want…) and stopped for coffee at the Sega Ferdo coffee shop in Einat's fuel station.

Whew that was a relief...

The way back was going OK when suddenly Ingrid wanted to drink her water, but to no avail, there was no back pack on her person. She'd gone left it back at SegaFredo. Well after 37 phone calls on 2 mobiles we carried on through the Rosh HaAyin railway station, along the tracks and into Eli Shema and home.

For a lot of us the trip was exploring new areas which is always nice and also it was a record (John says) of 50 Kms for a home ride and we were pleased to do the ride with 19 hardy riders.
Ride Report - 3rd November 2007: Kinneret Ride Special Event - By Hylton

David insists that it's traditional.

"What’s traditional?" I ask knowingly, to be honest.

"That you do the Annual Kinneret Bike Ride write-up" he answers.

"Oh bugger!" I say, and then, "Oh, alright".

So here goes. It's that time of the year again and the excitement mounts. A number of Cyclenix members together with "spice" head for the Sea of Galilee on Friday during the day in anticipation of an early rise the following day, a quick breakfast and then the start of 65Km of pretty grueling cycling, together with some 7500 like minded riders, as we attempt the annual circumnavigation of the Kinneret.

Gill my wife, and I, David and Ingrid, Ted and Dina as well as Mina and Ya'acov stayed at a nice and reasonably priced hotel, the Aviv in Tiberias for the night, which included early breakfast on Saturday morning. In the early evening on Friday, we all went for a great dinner to a very good restaurant, the "Little Tiberias" just off the main road in the city, and then a short walk along the promenade before retiring.

We were up at 5.45am and after breakfast, headed to the start at Tzemach. To be honest, the ride itself is pretty uneventful, especially after you have done it a few times; this was my tenth, but the cool early morning breeze together with the early jostling for position between mountain bikes, road bikes, the occasional tandem, the numerous roller-bladers as well as the three-wheel cycles piloted by brave and much admired physically challenged riders, made for a great outing. There were also some uni-cycles apparently ridden by cyclists with a death wish. How some of these crazies maneuvered in and out and around all the rest is beyond me!!

Of the members of the Cyclenix group, Adrian probably came in way ahead of anybody else, but then he had a most unfair advantage, a road bike for the occasion! Max and Nurit also finished ahead of many of us, (Max, you and Nurit are NOT the Novices you claimed to be when you joined the group. You’ve both been "having us on"!!!!) We also saw Natan, Shimon, Moshe as well as Dudi and Yaron. Also good to see Zeev, and Amnon and Klara.

However Ingrid, I think, was the star because she was some way behind David and I for most of the time, but somehow crept up on us surreptitiously, shouted "DAVID" as she rolled on by in the final 10Km stretch, and never looked back, clocking in some five minutes ahead off us. As we chugged in, Ingrid was heard to shout "Eat my Dust" to her sweaty faced mate!!!

Well that about sums it up for this year. Hopefully next year, and for other annual national events, Cyclenix participants will ride with CYCLENIX shirts; we were envious of some of the other Israeli biking groups and clubs who turned up in their special clobber. Why not us????
