Ride Report - 27th Dec. 2008 - By Ariel
Ride Report - 20th Dec. 2008 - By Moshe
Sixteen of us met at the car-park where we were introduced to Malcolm, Hylton’s identical twin brother. Malcolm is visiting from California. If he were to live here, we would never know which brother we were addressing, their likeness to each other is so incredible. We also welcomed Shimshon, who decided to join us after seeing the group meeting and setting-off for its rides from his near-by lounge window.
The morning started off cool and clear but then became overcast and cold. Later it warmed up again and the sun came out. We set off, led by Martin, cycling through Batzra and crossing under Road 4,towards Tel Mond. Our route skirted Sde Warburg, going through Mishmeret, Kfar Hess, and Tel Mond. After cycling down Road 553 past Bnei Dror, we stopped to eat fresh mandarins and then continued on our way, crossing under Road 4 to its Western side again and then headed for Bnei Tzion. During the ride, Malcolm and Hylton switched bikes and caused confusion amongst us.
Our bike technicians and maintenance men (mainly David and Ronnie) helped repair Talia’s puncture and adjust Hylton’s front suspension with John's special pump. Most of the paths were good, hard-packed sand, and only one section (fairly long) had loose sand. There was also some mud on the way, which most of us were able to skirt. In all, it was an easy, comfortable ride.
The group stopped at Spingo for refreshments. It was good to be out, cycling about 34 kilometers in the fresh air with good company.

"I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;" John Masefield
Well, it was quite nippy at 7:30 this morning but the sun was promising to make an appearance. There were ten of us at the car-park, including six-and-a-half year old Nadav who had decided to accompany his father, Giddy, and subsequently rode so well that we were all extremely impressed. Well done, Nadav!
It started off as a very gentle ride, along Weitzman street and past the Kfar Nachman cemetery towards Rishpon. From there we turned North just before the railway line and continued past Moshav Udiim in the direction of Netanya. We then rode across the bridge over the Coastal Road and into Ramat Poleg, making our way through the silent and beautifully-paved streets down towards the beach.
We decided to return along the coast, which was an unusual decision for a group with a No Sand policy (or is that just in my imagination!). Indeed, by now the sun was shining, the sea was sparkling, and the shore was dotted with joggers, sunbathers, and fisherman. At times it was actually possible to ride on the wet sands closest to the water. Often, however, the path was blocked by rocks, and here and there we sunk into the gravel washed up by the waves. So we pushed our bikes some of the way (Daniel reckons about 10% of the way and for him it probably was!) and rode the rest, finally to relax (collapse?) on a rock and watch the birds skimming the sea’s surface for their next meal.
After recovering, we took a sandy path that led away from the coast and towards the Sharon Beach nature reserve. From there we rode through Moshav Arsuf and past the impressive outdoor statues of the Green Gallery. We again crossed a bridge back over the Coastal Road and headed through Moshav Rishpon towards the whitewashed buildings of Lev Hapark. To summarize, it was a fun ride of over 35 kilometers, with a fresh sea breeze and excellent company.

The perfect recipe for a good ride! Take one day of sunny, but not too hot weather and mix it with the following:- Good company, a not too difficult course (but one that gives your body a fair work out), not too much soft sand, no wind and lots of nice scenery. Well, that's what we had when 19 riders met at our usual starting point opposite Yad L'Banim in Ra'anana this morning. There were, amongst the 19 some newcomers and also a a few whom we haven't see for some time. Welcome to the "newies" and welcome back to the "oldies"! I hope that you enjoyed yourselves and that we'll see more of you in the future.
Now for the ride! We travelled West along Ahuza taking the route down to the Tel Aviv - Haifa Railway line, then North alongside the railway line to the bridge before the road between Tsomet Dror and Udim. From there, we headed East through the fields and then South through the orchards on the Eastern side of Bnei Zion to one of our favourite "breakfast" stops, SPINGO, where the food is good, the service is excellent and on top of that, if there's anything you require for your bike (accessories or riding gear) there's a shop with an excellent selection. Having eaten and drunk our fill it was homeward bound. Thank you David for leading the ride (as usual in excellent style!) That's approximately another 34 kms of good riding in pleasant company under our belt.
